Excellent Column On The Church & Disturbing Trends With Our Government

Cardinal Francis George, Archbishop of Chicago, has written an excellent article on the disturbing trends in our country that are eroding our religious freedom.

Please pray for him as he is critically ill with cancer and has cancelled his visit to Rome to meet with Pope Francis. I read that he is undergoing an experimental chemotherapy.

Book Corner

Someone gave me a copy of a great new book by Sherry A. Weddell. It's called "Forming Intentional Disciples — The Path to Knowing And Following Jesus". I highly recommend this book. It gives you a lot to think about and how we need to get back on track with the mission of the Church. Here's a quote from Pope Benedict XVI which is in the book: Faith is above all a personal, intimate encounter with Jesus, and to experience his closeness, his friendship, his love; only in this ways does one learn to know him ever more, and to love and follow him ever more. May this happen to each one of us.

Retreat

I enjoyed the retreat I conducted this past weekend. It was also great to see a few faces from my old parish. I came home and found out that one of the pipes in the church broke during the Spanish Mass. It made a huge mess so we had Mass last night in the gymnasium as well as this morning. I sure hope things will be back up and running for Our Lady of Guadalupe celebration on Thursday. I have recorded the homily and it is available here. Have a great day!
